Here
is what we
think
With
longer working
hours and the
demands of a
competitive
career the
ladder to
success can
sometimes make
finding a
partner all
the harder and
the higher up
one climbs,
the harder it
can get.
For those
who are very
serious about
finding a
partner but
who are disenchanted
with the club scene
and would
prefer to cut
to the chase,
speed dating
and other
singles events
have become
the next best
thing.
But Why do
so few black
men and women
attend singles
events?
They make up
fewer than 5%
of the
attendees.
The answer for
many, is the
fear that they
will be the
odd ones.
As a single
black
woman, I have
discovered
this myself
and was left feeling
disappointed
and somewhat
discouraged.
It is not due
to the fact
that I am only
interested in
dating black
men, but I
felt it would
have been nice
to have had the
choice.
The doors
are open to
all races, but why do
so few black
men and women attend
despite the
fact that the
singles market
is booming?
Could it
possible be
the age-old
stigma that
has surrounded
singles events
from its
onset?
There is a
notion that
attendees of
singles events
must somehow
be desperate
or that there
must be
something
wrong with
them
that has
prevented them
from finding a
partner the
natural
way.
Age old
preconceptions
are hard to
shift without a
driving force
that is
determined to
promote
change.
Taking
a Chance on
Love
Why should
it matter how
one finds a
partner?
especially
when a
wholesome
family unit
can
dramatically
improve one's
lifestyle,
especially
when raising a
family.
Maybe
change starts
with admitting
that there is
a need for
such events
and spreading
the word.
